What Is Lip Filler?

Lip filler is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment done for the purpose of adding volume to the lips. This can be done to enhance the size and shape of the upper, lower, or both lips or can be done to balance any asymmetrical differences of the lips. Lip filler can also smooth the appearance of vertical lip lines, which are small wrinkles that develop as a part of the natural aging process. Lip filler is injected using a fine gauge needle and is typically made from a hyaluronic acid material that adds volume and promotes hydration. Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in the human body and is responsible for cushioning and lubricating the joints and tissues in the body.

Am I a Good Candidate for Lip Filler?

You may be a good candidate for lip filler if you’re in good overall health and looking to enhance the size, shape, or symmetry of your lips using a natural and non-surgical method. Ideal candidates are those who desire fuller lips, want to correct asymmetry, or wish to smooth out fine lines around the mouth. If you have realistic expectations and are seeking a temporary, non-surgical solution for lip enhancement, lip fillers could be a great option for you. A consultation at New Image Plastic Surgery is required to examine your facial anatomy, discuss your goals, and ensure that lip fillers are the right choice for you.

The Lip Filler Procedure

New Image Plastic Surgery offers lip filler using popular FDA-approved dermal fillers such as Juvéderm, and Restylane. Both lip filler products are made with hyaluronic acid, which is naturally occurring and has a minimal risk of adverse reactions. To begin your treatment, your provider will apply a topical numbing cream on and around your lips to ensure your comfort. Once the anesthetic has been applied your provider will very carefully and meticulously inject the filler using a fine gauge needle. Breaks between injections may be taken to ice your lips in order to minimize bruising. Treatment typically only takes 30 minutes to complete.

Lip Filler Results and Recovery

Lip filler results are visible immediately after the procedure, with lips appearing fuller, more defined, and beautifully enhanced. Some minor swelling or bruising may occur, but these effects usually subside within a few days revealing the final, desired results. The results of lip fillers can last anywhere from six months to a year, depending on the type of filler used and how fast you metabolize the filler. Recovery is generally quick, with most patients able to resume their normal activities right away. It is advised to avoid strenuous exercise and excessive sun exposure for the first 24 to 48 hours. Regular appointments can be scheduled as you need to maintain the new appearance of your lips.
