Very large breasts can cause physical pain and discomfort, as well as health and emotional problems. To get smaller breasts, a breast reduction can be done to eliminate excess tissue, skin, and fat.

Who is a Candidate?
Candidates for breast reductions are women who have overly large breasts that are too big for their frame and disproportionate. Often, women with large breasts also suffer from back and shoulder pain, neck pain, and skin irritation. A breast reduction in San Antonio can fix these problems by reducing your breast size by removing excess glandular tissue.
This procedure, also known as a reduction mammoplasty, can also help women feel more confident in their appearance. Ideal candidates are healthy, nonsmokers who have realistic expectations for their surgery. The best way to determine if this procedure is right for you is through an in-office consultation with Dr. Homas or Dr. Brostrom.
The Procedure
There are two incision patterns that can be used for breast reduction. These patterns include:
The Lollipop Incision: The incision for this pattern is created around the areolar border and vertically down to the breast crease. It is commonly used for those in need of a moderate amount of reduction.
The Anchor Incision: This is created around the border of the areola, then it continues vertically down the breast crease and horizontally along the crease. This incision is used for significant reductions.
Through the incisions that are made, Dr. Homas and Dr. Brostrom will remove excess breast tissue, skin, and fat. Then the nipple-areola complex will be repositioned, and your breast shape reconfigured to a more symmetrical and youthful contour. A breast lift is often done along with a breast reduction for the ultimate breast rejuvenation.
Recovery
After your breast reduction procedure, you will need to wear a special compression garment or surgical bra to reduce swelling. Bruising and swelling are normal, and any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. It is recommended that you sleep in a reclining position to reduce swelling and pain. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for six weeks to ensure you heal properly and minimize scarring. The breasts will re-drape as they heal, with the final size and shape being seen after 6 – 12 months.
