What is a Labiaplasty?
The self-confidence of women can take a hit after giving birth. Childbirth changes a woman’s body and can reduce a woman’s self-confidence. Labiaplasty is a way to alter the appearance of the vagina and give it a youthful look. The changed appearance of the vagina after childbirth can lead to a level of discomfort. To improve the appearance and comfort of the vagina, our surgeons will reshape the inner and outer lips of the vagina to improve the overall appearance and relieve symptoms such as pain or discomfort when wearing tight clothing or exercising.
The Labiaplasty Procedure
The procedure used for labiaplasty varies for each patient. The traditional procedure aims to produce a symmetrical appearance for the exterior of the vagina. There are many reasons why women look to undertake a labiaplasty, with the procedure performed under local anesthesia. After being sedated, the patient will have a portion of the labia minora removed that is protruding beyond the labia majora. The trim procedure aims to limit the amount of the inner vaginal lips protruding beyond the outer lips. Each patient reacts differently to the procedure, but the overall impression of an aesthetically-pleasing vagina with a youthful appearance.
Labiaplasty Recovery
A common concern for women undertaking the labiaplasty procedure is the recovery period following surgery. Like all surgical procedures, patients should expect some recovery period. During the procedure, the labia minora is trimmed to reduce the amount of the inner lips visible below the outer lips. The suturing of the area will lead to some bruising and tenderness. Bruising and swelling are normal for patients because of the invasive nature of the procedure. Most patients need to rest for at least one day after the procedure, with labor-intensive work not recommended for at least one week. Patients should refrain from sexual intercourse for one month to allow the tissues to heal and to avoid discomfort.
Good Candidates for Labiaplasty
The first question patients ask is whether they are a good candidate for labiaplasty? There are many reasons why a woman can feel she needs to undertake the procedure. The labia minora can protrude beyond the labia majora because of damage during childbirth or genetics. Any patient who feels they have suffered from a loss of self-confidence because of their vaginal appearance may consider undergoing a labiaplasty. The refined contour between the labia and vulva will provide a boost in confidence for women who are concerned about their appearance or who experience pain and discomfort due to enlarged inner labia.
