Chemical Peels
Conveniently located to serve the areas of San Antonio, TX
Chemical peels are popular cosmetic treatments that are used to address signs of aging, sun damage, or skin irregularities by resurfacing the facial skin. Most commonly, chemical peels address fine lines and wrinkles, mild scars, acne, age spots, dark spots, uneven skin tone, and sun damage for a smoother, more radiant complexion.
At New Image Plastic Surgery, we use the Replenix® MD Perfect 10 Peels by Topix Pharmaceuticals. The Perfect 10 Peels are medical-grade chemical peels comprised of an all-trans-retinol complex as well as a proprietary blend of seven acids in varying strengths. The Intermediate and Advanced peels also contain the powerful ingredient Resorcinol.

The Three Perfect 10 Peel Depths We Offer Are:
Universal
Perfect for a first-time peel, or patients with sensitive skin, the Universal Perfect 10 Peel is the shallowest peel depth of the Perfect Ten Peels. This treatment peels and exfoliates the skin without going too deep into the skin, causing irritation to sensitive skin types. The Universal peel is a great introductory peel to test an individual’s tolerance to the active ingredients.
Intermediate
For slightly more tolerant skin types, patients may be able to move up to the Intermediate Perfect 10 Peel. The peel can be used on sensitive to normal skin just like the Universal peel, but also offers a deeper peel level due to an additional ingredient called Resorcinol. If you have relatively tolerant skin or have had good results from the Universal peel, you may be a good candidate for the Intermediate peel.
Advanced
The deepest of the three peels, the Advanced peel, includes the same seven acid blend in the Universal and Intermediate peel but also contains an advanced amount of the powerful ingredient Resorcinol for more drastic results. This peel is intended for normal to tolerant skin types due to its more advanced strength in ingredients and depth of peel. Most patients work their way up to this peel.
Who is a Good Candidate?
All skin colors can have the Perfect 10 chemical peels, but individuals with fair skin and light hair are often better candidates for more aggressive chemical peels. Those who are pregnant or nursing, or have psoriasis, eczema, or rosacea should not receive chemical peels. The best way to determine if this treatment option is right for you is through a consultation with Dr. Homas or Dr. Brostrom.
The Treatment
There are different types of chemical peels, including universal, intermediate, and advanced. The deeper the peel, the more dramatic the results, and the more downtime needed. During treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin which removes the outermost layer of dull and dead skin cells, revealing healthy, more vibrant skin underneath.
Results and Recovery
Following a chemical peel, it may feel as if the treatment area has a mild sunburn. Peeling and redness will also occur within 3-7 days. The skin will be temporarily more sensitive to the sun, so a broad-spectrum sunscreen above SPF 30 should be worn. Overall, recovery time will vary depending on the depth of the peel.
