When to Consider Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery

Are your sagging eyelids making you look tired all the time or even causing vision problems? Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, can be performed to improve the appearance and function of the eyelids by reducing excess skin and tissue. If your drooping eyelids are bothering you, it might be time to consider eyelid surgery.

Who is a Candidate?

Good candidates for a blepharoplasty procedure are healthy, non-smokers with no untreated eye or other medical conditions. Candidates should also possess a positive outlook for results and have realistic goals in mind. Before having a blepharoplasty procedure, your surgeon will make sure that drooping is actually from the eyelids and not also from the forehead or brow.

What it Can Fix

You might consider blepharoplasty if you experience baggy or drooping upper eyelids, excess skin of the upper or lower eyelids, bags under the eyes, or puffiness due to fatty deposits around the eyes. For some people, these issues might be causing vision problems and obstructing the peripheral view. For others, the procedure can be done for cosmetic reasons to give the eyes a more alert and rejuvenated appearance.

What it Can’t Fix

While an eyelid surgery can greatly improve the appearance of the eyes, other procedures might need to be added to give you the results you want. For example, blepharoplasty probably won’t eliminate dark under eye circles, crow’s feet, or other facial wrinkles. If these are issues you experience along with drooping eyelids, talk with your surgeon about additional treatment options like Botox, fillers, or a forehead lift to add to your eyelid surgery!
