Blepharoplasty
Conveniently located to serve the areas of San Antonio, TX
As we age, the skin around our eyes and eyelids can begin to sag, and can even impair your line of vision. Puffiness under the eyes, dark circles, and saggy lower eyelids can also occur. Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, can address these issues for a more youthful appearance.

Who is a Candidate?
Individuals who have excess, hanging skin and/or bulging fat on the upper or lower eyelids can often benefit from eyelid surgery. Blepharoplasty can be performed as an upper eyelid surgery to remove excess eyelid skin from the upper eyelids. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is also available to reduce dark circles, lower eyelid fat, and sagging skin from the lower lids. Whether you are looking for lower blepharoplasty surgery or an upper blepharoplasty, this is a cosmetic surgery intended to boost your self-image and confidence. If you are in overall good health and have realistic expectations for the outcomes of the procedure you may be a good candidate. Candidacy can be discussed during a consultation with Dr. Homas or Dr. Brostrom.
The Procedure
Eyelid surgery can be done on the upper and lower eyelids. The incision lines for eyelid surgery are concealed within the natural folds of the eyelids, so they are barely noticeable when healed.
Upper Eyelid Lift
During an upper eyelid lift, an incision is created within the natural creases of the upper lids. Removal of excess fat deposits and muscles, as well as removal of excess upper eyelid skin, is then performed through this incision.
Lower Eyelid Lift
During a lower eyelid lift, an incision is created just below the lower lash line or inside of the lower eyelid. Through the incision, excess skin can be removed, and fat can be repositioned or removed.
Recovery
Following eyelid surgery, tearing, sensitivity to light, and double vision may temporarily occur. Swelling and bruising are to be expected, and any discomfort can be treated with pain medication. Ice packs or cold compresses can be applied to the eyes to reduce swelling. You should sleep with your head raised higher than your chest, as this can minimize swelling and bruising. Strenuous activities should be avoided for 4-6 weeks following surgery. The exact amount of downtime will vary depending on the extent of the surgery.
