About Your Consultation
Depending on your location and willingness or ability to travel frequently, you will have two options when it comes to your consultation: visiting our office in San Antonio for an in-person meeting or working with Dr. Homas or Dr. Brostrom over the phone and via email.
Scheduling your consultation at our office
If you are able to travel to San Antonio before your surgery for a consultation in our office, the doctor will meet with you to listen to and evaluate your concerns, review your options, and make personalized recommendations for achieving your goals. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your procedure(s) of interest, review before and after photos of previous patients, and meet your surgical team.
Your doctor or patient care coordinator will also take this opportunity to speak with you about the surgical process and safety information related to your travels. You will be provided with a quote for your procedure, information about how to prepare for surgery, and prescriptions for medications if necessary.
Depending on your availability, you may choose to schedule your surgery soon after your consultation and stay in San Antonio leading up to your procedure. There is plenty to keep you entertained while you wait!
Consulting via Phone or Email
For those who are unable to travel to San Antonio for an in-office consultation, our team will happily work with you over the phone or via email. To get the most out of this type of consultation, there are a few things we will need from you.
- Patient forms, including medical history.
- Pictures of your areas of concern.
- An hour of uninterrupted time.
Dr. Homas or Dr. Brostrom will review all of your information prior to your consultation. He will be ready to discuss your options and his recommendations during your conversation.
How to take your pre-consultation photos
To best provide you with personalized information and to ensure your doctor understands your concerns, it’s important that you provide us with pictures of your main areas of concern. Here are some tips for getting your photos right:
- When setting up your personal photoshoot, ensure you are in a well-lit room with a solid-colored or non-busy background.
- If your area of concern is on your body or breasts, now is not the time to be shy! You’ll need to disrobe and ensure you are taking unobstructed photos. Your privacy is our first priority and if you are uncomfortable sending photos with nudity through email, we can work with you to come up with another solution.
- Take a picture directly facing the camera.
- Turn so your left side is facing the camera and take a picture. Enlist the help of a friend if necessary.
- Next, take a picture with your right side facing the camera.
- Now, angle your body 45 degrees to the left and snap a picture.
- Then, angle your body 45 degrees to the right for your next picture.
Scheduling & Paying for Surgery
Once your consultation is complete, you’ll review the provided price quote and information to decide if New Image Plastic Surgery is a good fit for you. If you are ready to move forward, the next step is scheduling your surgery. One of our friendly staff members will work with you to find the perfect surgery date that fits in with your travel plans and time off of work.
To secure your surgery date, you will be required to put down a deposit. The amount due will be reviewed with you during your consultation. Cash, major credit cards, and cashier’s check are all acceptable forms of payment.

Preparing for Your Surgery & Recovery
For your safety and success, advanced planning is a necessity of traveling for surgery. Luckily, Dr. Homas or Dr. Brostrom will work closely with you throughout the planning process. A thoughtful and well-planned surgical and recovery experience can help ensure the process is safe, comfortable, and stress-free for you.
The specifics of your recovery will depend on your chosen procedure, overall health, and personal healing ability, though some swelling, bruising, and discomfort should be expected. We will speak with you about proper aftercare and will prescribe the appropriate medications to help keep you comfortable.
Safety & Precautions
In the days or weeks leading up to your surgery, it is important to follow certain pre-surgery guidelines. You will be provided with specific instructions, but here are a few standard precautions to take prior to your surgery:
- If you are a smoker, it is imperative to avoid nicotine for at least a month before and after your procedure.
- Cease taking vitamin supplements for around 12 days before and after your surgery.
- Avoid supplements, foods, and drinks that slow blood clots, such as aspirin or green tea.
- Discuss any supplements or medications you are currently taking, including dosages.
It is critical that you openly communicate with your doctor about your health, habits, and lifestyle to ensure a safe experience.
Aftercare
After your procedure, we will take every precaution to ensure your comfort. Soreness is to be expected after your procedure, and Dr. Homas or Dr. Brostrom will prescribe oral pain medication to manage your discomfort.
If possible, we recommend that you travel with a friend or loved one. You will need transportation back to your hotel, in addition to a bit of extra care the first evening while the effects of anesthesia wear off. We will provide you with detailed instructions for your procedure when you are discharged.
Planning Your Stay
Once you’ve scheduled your surgery, you will need to make travel arrangements and prepare for your time off work. During your consultation, your doctor will discuss your specific recovery timeline with you, but we recommend at least seven days for all procedures.
