Mommy Makeover
Conveniently located to serve the areas of San Antonio, TX

A mommy makeover is a customizable, comprehensive treatment designed to rejuvenate a woman’s body after experiencing physical changes after pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and sometimes weight loss. These changes often include stretched skin, sagging breasts, and stubborn fat deposits, which can impact self-image and overall well-being. If you are looking for a comprehensive treatment to address the changes in your body, you might be a candidate for a mommy makeover. A mommy makeover combines procedures such as a breast augmentation and/or a breast lift, tummy tuck or tummy tuck 360, and possibly liposuction to optimally sculpt the body. (1)

About Mommy Makeovers
Mommy makeovers typically include a combination of any of the following procedures:
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation utilizes implants and/or fat transfer techniques to enhance breast size and fullness, particularly benefiting those whose breasts have deflated after pregnancy, breastfeeding, and possibly weight loss secondary to volume loss. Dr. Brostrom offers both saline and silicone implants. The optimal implant for each patient can vary, so it is important to attend a personal consultation for guidance. Dr. Brostrom can combine implant-based techniques with a fat transfer to disguise implant edges when necessary and create a more natural look.
Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
After pregnancy and breastfeeding, the breasts often lose structural support and elasticity and begin to sag, appearing lower on the chest wall. By repositioning and removing excess skin and lower hanging breast tissue, a breast lift raises and reshapes sagging breasts, providing a firmer, more youthful look. This procedure can also improve the appearance of the nipples, creating enhanced symmetry and better proportions.
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
A tummy tuck involves removing excess skin, localized fat, and repairing the abdominal muscles to create a flatter abdominal wall. During pregnancy, in addition to developing excess skin, patients experience something called ‘diastasis recti,’ which is when the rectus muscles (the 6-pack muscles) separate to allow room for the enlarging uterus. Muscle repair is the most effective way to address diastasis recti and create stronger abdominal support.
Liposuction
Liposuction removes stubborn pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise with gentle suction to enhance contours. First, Dr. Brostrom will make a small incision to administer tumescent fluid, which is made up of epinephrine, saline, and a local anesthetic (typically lidocaine). This provides constriction of the blood vessels to minimize blood loss. After allowing the solution to take effect, Dr. Brostrom will insert a cannula, or suction tube, through the same incision to break up and remove the targeted fat. After fat removal, the fat cells do not regrow, so the results are permanent as long as a stable weight is maintained.
Common treatment areas for liposuction include the abdomen, thighs, flanks, and arms, but it can be used almost anywhere there is excess fat.
Other Surgical Options
Depending on individual concerns, patients can include additional body contouring procedures during their mommy makeover, such as a thigh lift, arm lift, labiaplasty, and more.
Benefits
Mommy makeover procedures are popular because of the many benefits they provide. Some of the advantages Dr. Brostrom’s patients experience include:
- Improved Self-Esteem: Many women report enhanced confidence levels following their mommy makeover, enjoying a renewed sense of self.
- Customized Results: Personalized treatment plans ensure that each patient achieves their desired outcome based on their unique anatomy and goals.
- Long-Lasting Effects: Surgical results are permanent, especially when patients follow aftercare instructions and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The surgery does not stop the natural aging process, however, and the normal aging process will continue.
- Efficient Treatment: Combining multiple procedures in one operation allows patients to experience one recovery period, as opposed to several if they were performed separately. (2)
Candidates
Ideal candidates include those who:
- Have completed their family planning and are no longer expecting children
- Are finished breastfeeding
- Are in good overall health
- Maintain a stable weight
- Have realistic expectations regarding surgical outcomes
- Are non-smokers or are willing to quit smoking for an extended period of time
Mommy makeovers are also not exclusive to mothers — any patient who would benefit from a combined approach to address their breasts and torso is encouraged to attend a consultation.

Preparation
To ensure a smooth procedure and recovery, Dr. Brostrom will give you a detailed set of preoperative guidelines. It is important to follow these instructions closely, as they will help you improve your comfort and heal more efficiently. They will likely ask you to:
- Stop taking blood-thinning medications and certain supplements as necessary
- Continue to avoid nicotine (if applicable)
- Arrange for a trusted friend or family member to drive you home on the day of surgery and assist you during the initial recovery period
- Plan for adequate time off work—we often recommend two weeks, though patients with more physically demanding jobs may require additional time off.
Recovery
Recovery from a mommy makeover varies depending on the patient’s individual situation and the extent of the procedures performed. Most patients experience some swelling and mild discomfort during the first few days, which is effectively managed with prescribed medication and by following aftercare instructions.
Most patients resume normal daily activities within two weeks; however, they should avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for four additional weeks or until Dr. Brostrom provides clearance.
We encourage patients to prioritize rest and follow all postoperative care instructions that Dr. Brostrom provides to help ensure a smooth healing process. Dr. Brostrom will monitor your recovery progress and results during follow-up appointments in the subsequent weeks.
Results
Initial results of a mommy makeover will likely be noticeable soon after surgery. As swelling gradually subsides over the following weeks, the outcomes will become more refined, revealing a stunningly rejuvenated figure. Patients often report significant improvements in breast shape, abdominal contour, and overall body proportions. Many also experience increased confidence and satisfaction with their postpartum bodies. (3)
