Rhinoplasty
Conveniently located to serve the areas of San Antonio, TX
The nose is at the center of the face, and when it is too large, crooked, or uneven, it can throw off facial harmony. If you are looking for a nose more proportionate to the rest of your facial features, a rhinoplasty may be able to help. This procedure can address nose size, width, profile, and tip for a more symmetrical appearance.

What is Rhinoplasty?
A rhinoplasty is commonly known as a “nose job” surgery. The procedure is intended to address common concerns with the appearance of the nose, such as a crooked or asymmetrical shape, large nostrils, or a bump on the nasal bridge. In addition, rhinoplasty can serve to improve breathing by addressing issues such as a deviated septum. This procedure is known as a functional rhinoplasty or a septoplasty for cases where the septum alone is reshaped.
Who is a Good Rhinoplasty Candidate?
Individuals who feel that their nose is too large or too small, have a crooked nose or feel that their nose does not fit with the rest of their face can benefit from a rhinoplasty. A good candidate for rhinoplasty will be a healthy, non-smoker whose nose is an area of concern for the patient. Dr. Homas or Dr. Brostrom can determine if this treatment is right for you through a consultation.
Rhinoplasty Benefits
Rhinoplasty has several benefits. First, most patients choose rhinoplasty to address insecurities they may have about the appearance of their nose. After a rhinoplasty, the nose will appear more proportionate and balanced with the other facial features. Because the nose is the center of the face and the most three-dimensional feature, changing the appearance of the nose can affect the overall appearance while still looking natural. In addition, rhinoplasty can improve breathing or issues like snoring. Many patients choose rhinoplasty primarily to improve breathing issues caused by conditions like a deviated septum or other problems.
The Rhinoplasty Procedure
Rhinoplasty can be done using a closed approach or an open approach. During a closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are created inside the nose. During an open rhinoplasty, an incision is made across the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils (the columella). Through these incisions, the nasal cartilages and bones are exposed, allowing the doctor access to reshape the structures of the nose.
Rhinoplasty Recovery
Rhinoplasty patients will need to wear a nasal splint over their nose for support during recovery. Bruising and swelling is to be expected, though cold compresses can help to minimize this swelling and reduce pain. It is recommended that patients keep their head elevated for the first few days to reduce further swelling. Strenuous activity, bending, and lifting should be avoided for the first few weeks. While improvement will be able to be seen once the swelling subsides, final results can take up to a year to become fully realized.
