Who is a Good Candidate?
Men and women who have lost a large amount of weight and now have excess skin on the abdomen, hips, thighs, and buttocks are often good candidates for a lower body lift. Patients should be in overall good health and be at a stable weight. An in-office consultation with Dr. Homas or Dr. Brostrom can help to determine your candidacy.
The lower body lift procedure commonly includes an incision horizontally across the hipbones and along the bikini line to tighten the abdomen, groin, waist, thighs, and buttocks all in one procedure. This surgery removes an apron of extra skin and fat and improves the overall contour of the torso. Most scarring will be hidden beneath underwear or a bathing suit.
Drains are placed to help collect any excess fluids during recovery. You can expect to wear compression garments on the treated areas to help reduce swelling and support the new contours. Patients should not do any strenuous activity or lifting for 4-6 weeks, so be sure to have someone to help you at home. Any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication and usually resolves within a week or two after surgery. Results from a body lift are permanent, so you can enjoy your new body contour long-term!
