Who is a Good Candidate?

Facial implants can benefit anyone who wants to restore a youthful appearance. Many people wish to add definition to their cheeks, improve their jawline, and restore proportion to the face turn to facial implants. A consultation with Dr. Homas or Dr. Brostrom can help to decide if facial implants can help you reach your aesthetic goals.

The Procedure

Regardless of which facial area is receiving an implant, the procedure follows a similar pattern. First, surgical markings will be drawn on the face to help your doctor with implant placement location. Then, anesthesia, including local anesthetic is administered. A small incision near where the implant is to be placed is made, and a pocket is created to receive the implant.  Frequently, the incision is made inside the mouth. The implant is inserted and may be secured into position. Incisions will be closed with sutures.

There is a selection of facial implants to choose from, including:

  • Chin Implants
  • Cheekbone Implants

Recovery

Following facial implant surgery, you will experience some facial bruising and swelling. A cold compress should be applied to treatment areas to reduce these symptoms. Some discomfort is to be expected, which can be treated with pain medication. Depending on the location of your facial implants, you may be restricted to a liquid-only diet for a few days after surgery. Most patients are able to return to work within a week, though recovery time will vary from patient to patient.
