What are Injectables for Men?

Injectables are classified as neurotoxins or fillers. Neurotoxins work by targeting specific muscles in the face to reduce facial muscle activity that causes wrinkles. Neurotoxin injectables include Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin.  The most common treatment areas are the forehead wrinkles, the scowl lines between your eyebrows, and the wrinkles on the sides of your eyes (crow’s feet).

Filler injectables can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and add volume and fullness to the skin. Instead of targeting muscles and nerves in the face like neurotoxins, fillers reduce wrinkles by adding volume to the creases to smooth the skin. As men age, they can lose volume in their face due to decreased collagen production and drooping fat pads. Facial fillers can restore volume to define certain features for a more masculine, youthful appearance. Fillers include:

  • Juvederm – a line of injectable fillers which uses hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in the skin, to add volume and hydration. Juvederm is placed under the skin to fill lines and wrinkles such as smile
  • Restylane – an assortment of dermal fillers used to restore volume and fullness to the face and correct deep and superficial lines and wrinkles.
  • Radiesse – a volumizing filler to lift and fill certain areas of the face. Radiesse can also provide structure under the skin and promote new collagen growth, for younger, healthier-looking skin.

Who is a Candidate?

Injectables can provide benefits to men both young and old. Candidates are men who experience lines and wrinkles in their face or want to add volume to areas of the face. Men who want to enhance their appearance for a more youthful and revitalized appearance, but don’t want to have a surgical procedure, can choose to have injectables.

The Procedure

Treatment with injectables is a quick procedure, usually taking about 30 minutes to complete. During treatment, neurotoxins, filler, or a combination of injectables are inserted into the target area. While both neurotoxins and fillers give immediate results, multiple treatments can maximize these results.

Recovery

Recovery from injectables is very short, making it easy for men to fit into busy schedules. You might experience some redness and swelling at the injection sites, but this can be managed with an ice pack. Your exact recovery time will depend on the type of injectable you received, but most patients can immediately return to work and resume normal activity the next day.

If you’re looking for a non-surgical treatment to give you a younger, rejuvenated look, injectables might be the solution. To learn more about injectables for men or to schedule a consultation, contact our office today!
