Who is a Good Candidate?

Individuals who feel that their nose is too large or too small, have a crooked nose, or feel that their nose does not fit with the rest of their face can benefit from a rhinoplasty. A good candidate for rhinoplasty will be a healthy, non-smoker whose nose is an area of concern for the patient. Dr. Homas can determine if this treatment is right for you through a consultation.

The Procedure

Rhinoplasty can be done using a closed approach or an open approach. During a closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are created inside of the nose. During an open rhinoplasty, an incision is made across the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils (the columella). Through these incisions, the nasal cartilages and bones are exposed, allowing Dr. Homas access to reshape the structures of the nose.

Recovery

Rhinoplasty patients will need to wear a nasal a splint over their nose for support during recovery. Bruising and swelling is to be expected, though cold compresses can help to minimize this swelling and reduce pain. It is recommended that patients keep their head elevated for the first few days to reduce further swelling. Strenuous activity, bending, and lifting should be avoided for the first few weeks. While improvement will be able to be seen once swelling subsides, final results can take up to a year to become fully realized.
